How To Use Menstrual Cup

What is a menstrual cup?

A menstrual cup is a type of reusable feminine hygiene product that, with proper care, can last anywhere from 6 months to 10 years. Insert a small, flexible funnel-shaped cup made of rubber or silicone into your vagina to catch and collect period fluid.

Many women use cups as an eco-friendly alternative to tampons because they can hold more blood than other methods. Depending on the menstrual flow, you can use a cup for up to 12 hours. Before using it consult your gynecologist. You'll need to figure out what size you require first.

When determining your menstrual cup size, you and your doctor should consider the following factors:

  • Age
  • Length of your cervix
  • Period flow
  • The flexibility of the cup
  • Cup capacity
  • If you’ve given birth vaginally

Smaller menstrual cups are usually recommended for women under the age of 30 who haven't given birth vaginally. Larger sizes are frequently recommended for women over 30, who have given birth vaginally, or who have a heavier period.

How to Insert a Menstrual Cup

Follow these steps to use a cup:

  • Hands should be properly washed.
  • Grease the inside of the cup's rim.
  • Hold the menstrual cup in one hand, the rim facing up, and fold it in half tightly.
  • Place the cup, rim up, in your vaginal canal like a tampon without the applicator. It should be about an inch or two below your cervix.
  • Rotate the cup once it's in your vaginal canal. It will form an airtight seal into which leaks are kept at bay.

Without your cup falling out, you should be able to move, jump, sit, stand, and do other everyday activities. Consult your doctor if you're having trouble inserting your cup.

Menstrual Cup Wash

Follow these steps to take out the menstrual cup

  • Sterilize the menstrual cup.

Cup aftercare
